THE SHOPPES AT CROSS KEYS AND SHOPPES AT HAMILTON TO HOST FREE MAINSTAGE CENTER SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

June 23, 2010

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J.—June 23, 2010Beginning on July 8 and continuing on every Thursday evening in July, The Shoppes at Cross Keys will host a free concert series produced by Mainstage Center for the Arts, announced Stanbery Development, the lifestyle center’s owner/manager. July 17 will be a one day music festival produced by Mainstage to be held at The Shoppes at Hamilton, in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Each show will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on the center’s lawn. Shoppers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the free, live performances. Each performance will begin with a patriotic song by Sergeant William Mead of the U.S. Marine Corps (retired), the New Jersey Soloist for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Sgt. Mead wi

ll be followed by a performance by children from the cast of the Mainstage Center’s latest musical. (Tentatively scheduled are: “The Wizard of Oz,” “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland,” “Once on This Island,” and “Broadway for Kids.”) Mainstage’s Harmony and Encore Show Choirs, a 45-member professionally staged and choreographed Show Choir featuring fast-paced, high-energy performances sure to please the entire family, will follow. The featured performers will then take the stage. The schedule is:

July 8: The John Hoey Orchestra’s Tribute to Chicago

July 15: Country Music with Sherry Lynn

July 22: Classic Rock by the Fabulous 49ers

July 29: Jazz/Funk/R&B by Theodore “Teddy” Royal

August 5 is a rain date if needed.

“We’re thrilled to be holding these concerts at The Shoppes at Cross Keys, which is a great location,” said Ed Fiscella, producing artistic director of Mainstage. “Not only is it easy to get to, there is no other summer concert event in the area like ours.”

The 121,087-square-foot center Shoppes at Cross Keys is located at Berlin-Cross Keys Road and the Atlantic City Expressway, in Gloucester Township, N.J., halfway between Philadelphia and Atl

antic City. The Black Horse Pike (Route 42) and White Horse Pike (Route 30) are easily accessed from the west and east, respectively.

The series has been carefully designed to reflect a variety of musical tastes: The 11-piece John Hoey Orchestra’s big, bold sound is a huge hit in metropolitan Philadelphia and along the East Coast. They will kick off the series with a salute to the superband Chicago, playing their greatest hits. The next week, New Jersey native Sherry Lynn will offer her style of country music, which has led to her opening recent shows by Sammy Kershaw and Crystal Gale at the Pitman (NJ) Theatre. The Fabulous 49ers will then present listeners with a trip down memory lane, singing the greatest hits of the 1950s through the 1990s. Guitarist/composer Theodore “Teddy” Royal (Fats Domino’s lead guitarist for the last three decades) will end the ser

ies with the New Orleans flair that has led to performances with the Neville Brothers, Patti LaBelle and Hank Crawford.

“We’re absolutely delighted to partner with Mainstage on this event,” said James Westfall, asset manager of Columbus, Ohio-based Stanbery. “Our retailers and restaurants also are excited, with many offering special promotions to our concert-goers.”

Tenants at the center include Anytime Fitness; Banana Republic; Bensi Ristorante Italiano; Bok Bok Fresh; Cheeburger Cheeburger; Chico’s; Coldwater Creek; East Garden Buffet (coming soon); Gallery Direct; Jos. A. Bank; Justice for Girls; Lane Bryant; LOFT; Moe’s Southwest Grill; New York & Company; Rack Room Shoes; The Sleep Number Store; Spa San Marco; T-Mobile; White House/Black Market; and Yankee Candle. Explore the Magical World of Theatre at Summer Stage 2010

Mainstage Center for the Arts has 3 great ways to REGISTER for Summer Stage 2010:

  • ONLINE
  • By mail
  • In person at our Open House on May 5th at the Dennis flyer Theatre at Camden County College
  • Summer Stage offers exciting acting, singing, and dancing programs for youth entering second grade through age 25. Eighth graders and above may also take advantage of the behind-the-scenes programs, Technical Theatre, and Video Film Production.

The Open House begins with a short performance previewing production numbers from this year’s Children’s Musical Theatre Season including: The  Wizard of Oz, Once On This Island, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland and Broadway for Kids. The performance will also feature a glimpse of the summer’s Dance Explosion, where students ages 11 and up recreate Broadway classics and produce their own masterpieces.

Members of the Summer Stage 2010 staff will be available to answer questions about all nine Summer Stage camps, which progress in a fun way to help build skills and confidence among each age group.

The youngest campers, entering second and third grade, participate in Kid’s Stuff. This morning program provides a great introduction for those curious about theatre. Next, the program progresses to Apprentice, where mornings fly by for fourth and fifth graders as they learn the basics of stage performance in a relaxed, enjoyable environment. Both Kid’s Stuff and Apprentice culminate with a musical revue. Children that can’t get enough of these programs can stay for the afternoon through Storytelling Through the Arts, where campers enter the world of storytelling through ensemble play, crafts, and music.

In the next level, Children’s Theater, sixth through twelfth graders enjoy days filled with rehearsals and classes preparing for fully staged productions or participating in Technical Theater and Video Film camps. These experiences prepare participants for Mainstage, an evening program where ninth graders and above present a major Broadway musical. This year’s musical will be The Music Man. Finally, there is the Intern Touring Company, where a small group of young adults receive the opportunity to assist in staging, performing, and touring with an hour-long show to area parks, hospitals, and other venues.
