Performing Arts Academy - HIGH SCHOOL

* NEW   ACTING COMPANY (7th – 12th)    Tuesdays   7:30 – 9:00
Pre-requisite: Must be currently enrolled in an acting or Improv class at Mainstage Center for the Arts.
This is a performance based class focusing on non-musical plays.  The class will present two performances each year. Teacher/Director  Ian Kimble

HIGH SCHOOL ACTING- THESPIAN PROS – Tuesdays    6:30 – 7:30, Wednesdays   7:00 – 8:00
Students will put their skills and talents to the test creating 3 dimensional characters using physical, vocal and emotional empathy.  They will connect improvisation techniques to scene work while developing the ability to adapt to changes quickly and professionally.  Other skill building areas will include researching a character, stillness as a strength and linking objectives to actions and choices.   Teacher:  Ian Kimble


ACTING FOR THE CAMERA – BEGINNER
 (6th – 12th).  Mondays  5:15 – 6:15
Students will learn how to bring out the best of themselves at a commercial audition.  This includes tips, techniques, and personalized coaching on how to deliver a professional commercial audition.  This class is ideal for the student who wants to become comfortable in front of the camera and loves to perform. Each week students will be filmed, and the commercials will be watched in class for feedback from their peers and the instructor.  Teacher: Deckonti Tiah


* NEW  ADVANCED ACTING FOR THE CAMERA   (6th – 12th)   Mondays.  6:15 – 7:15
Prerequisite: Beginner Acting for the Camera Required
Students who have taken the beginner Acting for the Camera course will now have the opportunity to take on new roles in this advanced Acting for the Camera class! Students will be challenged to write their own material and have the opportunity to work behind the Camera filming and directing their own projects! Perfect for students who love to be creative and work in groups with their peers!  Teacher: Deckonti Tiah

BROADWAY PROS   – 6th – 12th     Mondays 7:15 – 8:15 OR Thursdays   5:30 – 6:30
The intensity of study grows in this Musical Theatre class as students at this level travel through the ages of Broadway Musicals learning dance combinations from different eras of musicals while also focusing on acting through song.

THEATRICAL  MAKEUP (6th – 12th) Mondays 7:15 – 8:15
Learn the ins and outs of stage makeup for exploration and work behind the scenes on film sets, television shoots, and live theatre.  This class will walk students through the basics of makeup all the way through to the special effect techniques used on their favorite screen or live theatre characters. A full year course of study will allow the students to fully explore the creation of different make-up styles, masks and character props.  Teacher: Corinne Maine

THEATRE ON THE FLY IMPROV CLASS –  (7th – 12th)    Wednesdays    6:00 – 7:00 
Improvisation is one of the best ways to improve a student’s craft.  Actors will learn the tools and develop the skills to think on the spot, to keep the story going even when a line is dropped.  They will build confidence, teamwork and the ability to really listen to one another to move a story forward. Through the use of theatre games and other improvisational techniques, students will learn to truly explore the what, where, when and why of any character they play.  Teacher: Johnathan Aviles


MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY  (5th – 12th).   Thursdays    6:30 – 8:30
This is a Musical Theatre performance based class where students will be  working on a full-scale musical performance, which will be performed at the Dennis Flyer Theatre!  Students in this class must be enrolled in Broadway Apprentice’s, Broadway Pros, or currently taking MCA classes/lessons in 2 of the 3 disciplines (acting, dance, voice).
