Fall 2020 Virtual Class Descriptions and Details

 

Creative Dance

Teacher: Kate Orlando

Creative Dance is an introduction to the foundations of dance in a fun and creative atmosphere. Children learn the basics of Ballet and movement through songs, games and structured activities using props to let their imagination soar!  

Ages: 3-4 Sessions  1 and 2 Mondays 6:00-6:40pm

 

Intro to Ballet, Tap and Jazz

Teacher: Kate Orlando

This class focuses on the foundations of Ballet, Tap and Jazz technique in a slightly more structured class setting.  

Session 1 will focus on Ballet Technique and skills.

Session 2 will focus on Tap and Jazz. 

Ages: 5-7 Sessions: 1 and 2 Mondays 7:00-7:40pm

 

Ballet Technique Level 1 and 2

Teacher: Kate Orlando

Ballet is the foundation of many dance forms and will maximize technique and longevity in a career of dance. It provides grace, poise, and technique needed to be proficient in all other areas of dance. Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence. 

Session 1 in both levels will focus on Turns and Variations. 

Session 2 in both levels will focus on Petite Allegro and Adagio.

Level 1

Ages: 8-11 Sessions 1 and 2 Tuesdays 6:00-6:40pm

Level 2

Ages 12 and up Sessions  1 and 2 Wednesdays 6:00-6:40pm

 

Ballet Repetiore Workshops Levels 1 and 2

Teacher: Kate Orlando

To further our ballet students virtual learning experience from the technique classes, students can work on choreography on these workshops focusing on the Nutcracker!  For our Younger students in the Level 1, during Session 1 we will be “Becoming Clara!”.  During Session 2 we will move on to a divertissement from Act 2.  Level 2 will learn a different divertissement from Act 2 in each session.

Level 2

Ages 12 and up Sessions  1 and 2 Wednesdays 7:00-7:40pm

 

Jazz Technique Levels 1 and 2

Teachers: Level 1: Roberta Curless

                     Level 2: Steven Clair

 Jazz dance is an exploration of style and presentation. Classes emphasize musicality and body alignment, conditioning, stretch and strengthening, rhythm and stylization as well as fun and innovative choreography.

Session 1 of both levels will focus on Skills and Style. 

Session 2 of both levels will focus on Musicality and Performance Skills. 

Level 1

Ages: 8-11 Sessions  1 and 2 Wednesdays 6:00-6:40pm

Level 2

Ages 12 and up Sessions  1 and 2 Tuesdays 6:00-6:40pm

 

Jazz Repertoire Workshops Levels 1 and 2

Teacher: Roberta Curless

To further our Jazz students virtual learning experience from the technique classes, students can work on choreography in our Jazz Workshops!  Level 1 will learn Broadway Jazz Style choreography during Session 1 and move onto Disney and Pop in Session 2!   Level 2 will learn Broadway Jazz style choreography (including a focus in Fosse) in Session 1 and move onto Latino Jazz and Pop in Session 2.

Level 2

Ages 12 and up Sessions  1 and 2 Thursday 7:00-7:40pm

 

Tap Technique Levels 1 and 2

Teacher: Roberta Curless

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound.  Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.  Session 1 of both levels will focus on the style of Rhythm Tap.

Session 2 of both Levels will focus on Broadway style Tap.

Level 1

Ages: 8-11 Sessions  1 and 2 Mondays 6:00-6:40pm

Level 2

Ages 12 and up Sessions  1 and 2 Mondays 7:00-7:40pm

 

Contemporary Levels 1 and 2

Teachers: Level 1: Roberta Curless

Level 2: Steven Clair

 Contemporary modern combines ballet and modern techniques with musical and emotional expression with a strong focus on modern techniques (contractions and release, off-center balances and suspension) as well as musicality and self-expression. 

Session 1 of both levels will focus on Alignment and Floor work.

Session 2 of both levels will focus on the different Modern Techniques. 

Level 1

Ages: 8-11 Sessions  1 and 2 Wednesdays 7:00-7:40pm

Level 2

Ages 12 and up Sessions  1 and 2 Tuesday 7:00-7:40om.     

 

Hip Hop: Intro and Open Level

Teacher: Maria Guldin

Hip Hop incorporates a variety of old and new urban dance styles. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. Hip hop dancing is very dynamic and helps the dancers improve flexibility develop body balance, and coordination.

Session 1 and 2 of both level will work on skills and freestyle. 

Intro to Hip Hop

Ages: 5-7 Sessions  1 and 2 Thursdays 6:00-6:40pm

Open Level Hip Hop

Ages 8 and up Sessions 1 and 2 Thursdays 7:00-7:40pm

 

Flexibility Workshop: Open Level 

Teacher: Steven Clair

This workshop will focus on the dancers flexibility through exercises and stretches to safely enhance their personal flexibility.  A strong and flexible body can create correct and safe lines in all forms of dance and enhance their technique.  

Session 1 will focus on Flexibility and Injury Prevention. 

Session 2 will focus on Flexibility and Strength.
