An affectionate tribute to Smalltown, U.S.A. of a bygone era, Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. This award-winning, critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution, thanks to its quirky characters, charmingly predictable dramatic situations, and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads which have become popular standards.

Since 1989, Summer Stage has been the home to thousands of young people for seven weeks during the summer. It is here they meet other kids with like interests and are taught by knowledgeable, caring staff.

Summer Stage has always felt that the quality of the show was just as important as the quality of the overall experience, and as a result, the kids who come to Summer Stage find themselves in a friendly environment, dedicated to excellence, but never forgetting that the children, themselves, are paramount. This is why Summer Stage continues to be the largest summer theatre camp, with the largest number of programs, the most staff, the highest number of return participants, and some of the lowest prices around.
